The new Common Core State Standards will require schools to comprehensively support student learning so students meet these enhanced expectations and reap the results of preparation for competition in a global economy. Beyond the classroom, this requires a system-wide integration. Our district/site leaders must be poised to become the central figures with the comprehension and vision surrounding implementation. They must gain a deep understanding of all that is involved and be able to guide their staff. With Common Core implementation, an administrator also must be prepared to observe how well a teacher integrates Common Core concepts and skills into their lesson plans. In order to do this, an administrator not only needs understanding as to what Common Core lessons involve, but what effective instruction and student mastery look like. DATES January 13, 2012 We will dig deeply into the English Language Arts Standards, the Appendices and support documents that will be necessary for transition to these standards. February 10, 2012 We will dig deeply into the Mathematic Standards, Appendix A, Standards for Mathematical Practice, and support documents that will be necessary for transition to these standards.   March 9, 2012 Understand the implications of the Rigor and Relevance Framework along with the Framework for 21st Century Learning   April 13, 2012 Examine Equity and the Common Core Standards.
