The RIMS CTAP Summer Roadshow consists of three mini-conferences located at sites across Riverside and San Bernardino counties. These 2-day workshops feature a variety of hands-on sessions for beginning and intermediate proficiency technology using educators. Teaching & Learning with Dr. Kate Kinsella’s Academic Vocabulary Toolkit
 Description
Join SBCSS and Dr. Kate Kinsella for a full-day training on her latest curriculum: the Academic Vocabulary Toolkit published by National Geographic Learning. Dr. Kinsella will equip secondary school teachers and instructional coaches to effectively implement this language-rich vocabulary program and provide students with opportunities to learn high-use academic words in a flexible format, and correctly employ these words in speaking and writing. Participants will observe model lessons and practice Dr. Kinsella’s instructional routine, specifically designed to help students master key academic vocabulary, re-engage in school settings, and increase scores on state assessments. Participants will : RUnderstand the critical role of high-use academic word knowledge for college and career readiness RAnalyze Common Core academic language demands and reflect on current teaching practices RExperience and practice Dr. Kinsella’s explicit, instructional routine for mastering high-use academic words RExamine how to address grammatical targets in verbal and written application tasks that help students gain control of persistent errors RPlan and prepare for an interactive and language-rich learning environment RExplore program resources and assessments RReview recommended pacing guide and optimal contexts for implementation RPreview Teacher’s Guides samples that provide detailed instructional routines, lesson guides, and an array of tools for teachers RObserve video excerpts from the Professional Development DVD featuring Dr. Kinsella and secondary teachers modeling key lessons.

VPSS English-Language Arts – Level I: Subject Matter Verification Process for Secondary Teachers in Special Settings
 Description
Students must have the opportunity to learn what is required for high school graduation regardless of the size and setting of their high school experience, whether it is an opportunity class, a juvenile court school, a special education setting, or small rural school. The subject matter verification process in English-Language Arts is designed to support teachers in these settings to teach California Academic Content Standards with confidence and competence.   Linguistics, Language, and Literacy Literature and Textual Analysis Rhetoric, Composition, and Conventions Level I will focus on the conceptual themes in This professional development will teach skills and concepts through hands-on, group activities and much more. The objective is for each teacher to leave with the belief that they have been given content and pedagogy they can deliver to their students. This training will help students pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE) and graduate from California high schools with the content knowledge and skills to compete in the global economy. Attendance at all five sessions is required. Please note payment requirements below A MINIMUM OF TEN PARTICIPANTS IS REQUIRED
