Participants will learn to develop a legally defensible Behavior Support Plan (BSP). The training will include: 1) describing behavior in measurable & observable terms; 2) observing & analyzing the environmental variables in which the behavior occurs; 3) managing the environment so that the student no longer needs to use the target behavior; 4) hypothesizing the function of the target behavior; 5) developing a functionally equivalent replacement behavior to meet the student’s desired function; 6) detailing the steps to teach the student the new replacement behavior; 7) appropriate use of reinforcement; 8) writing effective behavior goals; and 9) outlining positive communication procedures. All of the above will be understood further as participants become familiar in using the Quality Evaluation II to write and score a superior plan which will be defensible in a court of law. Participants will leave the training having collaboratively developed and scored a BSP consistent with IDEIA reauthorization requirements.
