Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Program Training (CPI) including Autism Spectrum Disorder: Application of CPI Nov 20, 2008 - Nov 21, 2008
Participants will learn early intervention and non-physical methods for preventing and controlling disruptive behavior. This training will also provide techniques for dealing with violent episodes/individuals, incorporating the unique challenges presented by individuals with ASD or other comunication disabilities. A team of at least two from each site recommended. Participants will: 1. apply and practice strategies as they relate to Nonviolent Crisis Intervention® training concepts. 2. gain a deeper understanding about why behaviors occur, how to prevent behaviors from occurring, how to appropriately intervene, and how to structure the postvention process. 3. explore appropriate adaptations and interventions to specifically address the needs of and learning styles of people. 4. develop skills to see crisis through the eyes of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 5. problem solve a variety of scenarios that staff may encounter during a crisis situation when supporting individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 6. review and be tested on physical competencies for CPI Personal Safety TechniquesSM and Nonviolent Physical Crisis InterventionSM.

Training starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. You must attend entire training to receive CPI certification.

All district staff who work with students who may exhibit serious behavior problems.
