							<title><![CDATA[Southern California STEM Service-Learning Institute ]]></title>
							<description><![CDATA[<strong>Event Date(s)</strong> Jul 17, 2012 - Jul 19, 2012<br \><p class="MsoBodyText2" style="text-align: justify;">Come and join us for a three-day Southern California STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Service-Learning Institute July 17-19, 2012.&nbsp;</p>
The Institute is a great opportunity for teachers and educators throughout the regions of Southern California to gather and network. Topics will range from the integration of specific California Academics Content Standards in the STEM content areas to STEM Service-Learning project planning. Through interactive tours and hands-on activities attendees will be introduced to air quality issues, water conservation and green careers, along with conservation and alternative energy sources. Participants will gain knowledge on the elements of a high quality STEM Service-Learning project, recruitment and retention of the underrepresented youth and gender equity as these areas pertain to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Agencies, business partners and educators will guide attendees on various aspects of project management and design, building and sustaining school/community partnerships, and the evaluation assessment process. Teams consisting of two site representatives from districts throughout Southern California attending the Institute will receive classroom support materials, local follow-up training, and updates.&nbsp;
